Edgarosaurus muddi

Edgarosaurus was a member of the Polycotylidae; a family of plesiosaurs that; despite their elongated and sometimes quite large heads, are more closely related to the long-necked Elasmosaurids than to the Pliosaurs. Edgarosaurus represents an early member of this family; a medium-sized plesiosaur that, like other polycotylids, may have been fast moving pursuit predators of small and medium sized game. Edgarosaurus was from the early cretaceous interior seaway; the generic name comes from the town of Edgar, Montana; a nearby location to where the holotype was found.
